A Candid Conversation with Jayesh Sachdev on Creativity, Collaborations, and the Quirky World of Design

Jayesh Sachdev is a multifaceted artist, designer, and entrepreneur known for his boundary-pushing creations that merge art, fashion, and design. The founder of Quirk Box, an award-winning design studio, Jayesh has left an indelible mark on the creative world with his unique aesthetic and thought-provoking projects. In this candid and fun interview with Nikitha Sunil, on behalf of The Ideal Home & Garden, Jayesh shares his thoughts on creativity, collaborations, and what inspires his innovative journey.

Nikitha:
Style Evolution:
What has been your biggest “aha” moment in design so far?

Jayesh: Understanding that energy is my constant and ever-evolving force has been a game-changer. Energy transforms, flows, and connects everything I create. This realization has deeply influenced my approach to design, allowing me to channel this force into every piece, whether it’s a painting, a sculpture, or a collaborative project.

Nikitha:
Creative Habits:
Do you have any quirky rituals that fuel your creativity?

Jayesh: Honestly, I don’t have a fixed set of rituals. Creativity is spontaneous for me; it’s about staying open to inspiration when it strikes. However, I do find that spending quiet moments observing my surroundings or reflecting often sparks new ideas. It’s less about rituals and more about mindfulness and being in tune with my environment.

Nikitha:
Emotional Design:
Have you ever created something that moved you to tears?

Jayesh: Absolutely. My Black and White Nude series, titled “No Where to Hide,” is one such project. These paintings came from an intensely emotional and introspective space. They explore vulnerability and raw human emotion, and working on them was cathartic. Seeing them come to life was deeply moving for me.

Nikitha:
Zara Collab:
What’s the story behind that striking 10-foot tiger?

The tiger is a powerful symbol for me—it represents untamed energy, strength, and resilience. When creating it, I wanted to capture these qualities in a way that felt bold yet approachable. The result was something that roars unapologetically but also carries an endearing presence, reflecting the duality of strength and grace.

Nikitha: Sustainability Edge: How do you balance eco-luxury with bold aesthetics?

Jayesh: Balancing eco-luxury with bold aesthetics is about intentionality. It’s about creating expressive and impactful pieces while being mindful of the materials and processes used. I believe art and design should evoke emotion and tell a story while aligning with sustainable practices. This balance requires careful thought and a commitment to doing things differently.

Nikitha: Fitness Regime: How does staying fit inspire your creative energy?

Jayesh: For me, staying fit is more than a routine; it’s a way of life. Physical health translates into mental clarity, which is essential for creativity. Whether it’s a workout or a simple morning stretch, these moments help clear my mind and recharge my energy, allowing me to dive into my work with renewed focus.

Nikitha: Dream Collabs: Who is your dream collaboration partner—a chef, an artist, or a scientist?

Jayesh: A scientist, without a doubt. The idea of collaborating with someone who works with intangible concepts like quantum energy fascinates me. Imagine translating those ideas into visual or experiential art. It would be an incredible blend of science and creativity, pushing the boundaries of what art can be.

Nikitha: Future Tech: What futuristic idea are you dying to bring to life?

Jayesh: I’ve always dreamt of creating interactive art spaces that evoke a sense of connection and aliveness. These spaces would allow people to engage with art in a dynamic, personal way, making it accessible and less intimidating. My goal is to democratize art and make it an immersive experience for everyone.

Nikitha: Timeless vs. Trends: Which trend will age gracefully, and which one screams, “What were we thinking?”

Jayesh: To be honest, I don’t follow trends. My creative process is organic, driven by what feels authentic and meaningful at the moment. Trends come and go, but timeless design is rooted in truth and intention, which is what I aim to achieve in my work.

Nikitha: Inspiration Spot: What’s your ultimate getaway for breaking a creative block?
Jayesh: The ocean is my ultimate escape. There’s something about being surrounded by water—its purity, vastness, and infinite energy—that opens up my mind to endless possibilities. The sea’s rhythms and lessons are a constant source of inspiration for me.
