The Jain’s home is a simple abode. A home that reflects their liking for things colourful and vibrant. In terms of space the house is huge. It’s an existing 2 BHK home, which has been connected with the acquisition of the neighbouring 1 BHK apartment. This 600 sqft addition includes the master bedroom and bath along with a living space that is being used as an entertaining zone.
The Living
The sea-surf toned walls refresh the living room of the house located in the bylanes of Byculla. Through minimal intervention, a new setting arises with the addition of a one bedroom and a living space to an existing two bedroom apartment. The Jain’s are a vibrant young couple and wanted an open living space and a master bedroom that could be connected to their existing two-bedroom space. The bold colours and geometry create an experience that is cool, playful and textural. The furniture is streamlined. Pieces are simple and uncluttered, built for economy of form, and to serve a purpose. The driving design concept is honesty, keeping structure and material in plain view. Juxtaposition of colours and geometric shapes within the flooring pattern, art work and furniture all combined accentuate the bold look. The living room has Australian white marble with Armani beige and black marquina stone. The vertical surfaces have been played with as well. The entrance wall clad in flamed and leather finish granite with it’s rich textures exudes warmth. The space is strategically lit with Corvi LED down-lights. The only decorative fixture is the pendant light designed by Benny Frandsen, which is suspended above a side table in the living room. The living room with it’s floor to ceiling window receives plenty of daylight. The space is bright and fresh – it has been accessorised using quirky objects and bright coloured sofas. A window within the space has been framed in teak veneer finish to create a reading alcove. And the panelled surfaces conceal the storage.
The Master Stroke
The master bedroom entrance passage doubles up as a wardrobe gallery. And the flooring pattern continues into the master bath as well. The wall that separates the bathroom from the room has been constructed of frosted glass to allow for daylight to filter into the wardrobe gallery. The bedroom is simple and minimalistic – the focus here is on a simple Burma teak designed bed. The natural beauty of the material has been celebrated here. In the bedroom too there is a play on the vertical surfaces. The wall behind the bed is clad in glossy black mosaic tile and the wall to the right is painted grey with geometric line work painted on as a pattern. While the living room is bright and vibrant; the bedroom takes on a more monochromatic palette, making it a more calm and tranquil space.
