Cool, calm and collected. That’s how Arjun Sodhi likes his home to be. “An orderly and relaxed space to come home to is total bliss,” shares Arjun, whose Sajavat Group — an interior solution store which he operates with his father, Kirat Sodhi — is replete with beautiful home décor and garden accessories. “It’s like another home! We never stand still and are always creating more displays to entice people,” he smiles.
For Arjun, this over-three-decadesold property has always been home. “I have always seen a beautiful and well-maintained house, thanks to my architect and interior designer father. Growing up with him has really helped me in many ways,” says the interior’s architect.
The pathway into the house exudes warmth. A virtual tour here will easily feature a pair of reindeers, some driftwood pieces, a wooden ladder, statues of boy and girl climbing up a ladder, wooden angels and buddha idols, all set against a green garden. To
complement the greenery outside, the lobby offers a modern twist with Arjun’s distinctive design sensibilities. He has placed a moon-shaped chair with silver and grey upholstery against a white and silver leafing console. Beautiful handmade silverware, black paintings on the wall, matching hand-painted pots, a bird bath and rustic candle stands create a monochromatic escape from the regular…

The Home: The house occupies an area of 450 sq yards and a stunning green outdoor expanse
Location: Golf Links, New Delhi
Rooms: 11 (approx) which include living, dining, lounge, lobby, two bedrooms, kitchen, home office, master bedroom, among others
Décor: High-end blend of modern, curvy classical and contemporary
A narrow foyer leads to the den. A huge room with two living areas, a small but well-stocked bar and a dining area reflect Arjun’s clever updating of a modern space. “I wanted to use contrast décor in my sitting areas and a little fun to it actually makes it a perfect party room to be used after dinner,” he explains.
One side of the living area highlights a gold sofa in a rich mirror design. The look has been completed with an interesting inlay worked coffee table and red and orange cushions. “You need colours to bring life to any space,” adds Arjun. A huge chandelier is installed to lend vibrancy to the setting. To cut the monotony, he has used an amazing painting right behind the sofa. “I love this painting, it is extremely chic and gives the room a trendy twist,” reveals the talented designer.
The other side of the living area boasts of soft colours like turquoise and white. It is a formal seating area with a huge leather couch, artificial flowers and paintings in shades of turquoise. “A few of the décor pieces here are handpicked by my mom during her vacations abroad. The furniture in the house is our in-house creation. After all, that’s our speciality!” laughs Arjun.
“Growing up with my father — an architect and interior designer kept me exposed to beautiful and wellmaintained houses,” says Arjun Sodhi
“A bit of contrast décor in my sitting area makes it the perfect room for entertaining,” adds Arjun Sodhi
According to him, each piece has been designed and custom-made to fit every particular corner of the house. He says, “Apart from these, we indulge in collecting bar accessories, glasses, miniatures and rare bottles from around the world.” Arjun believes in blending expensive and ordinary products for an elegant and welcoming vibe. “Yes, we have acquired some unique keepsakes from all over the world. But that’s not all luxury!” he maintains. To the left of the living area is the heart of the home — a double height lounge where tradition meets modernity. The space features black and white upholstered sofas. The colourful paintings act as a perfect backdrop and the peacock lamp creates a mesmerizing effect in the evening. To add some essence, Arjun has placed three musical Ganesha idols, a gorgeous buddha console and a buddha mirror. A small temple right above this area lends a serene feeling to the space. The family spends time listening to bhajans in the evening. “What can be more auspicious for the home than Buddha? We believe that Lord Buddha brings positive energy into our home,” shares Arjun.
Vintage décor elements lend a rustic charm to the lobby…
“While a few of the décor pieces are hand-picked by my mother during her travels, the furniture is our own creation,” says Arjun Sodhi
The lounge leads to the home office, which again has a monochromatic the picturesque water bodies in the garden. The home office has an artwork in dark and light hues. Well, to be precise, every corner of the house speaks of art; be it living, lounge, lobby or temple!
Warmth radiates from the combination of materials used in the hallway. Wood, metal and artificial grass carpeting balance each other, leading you into the informal areas. A hand-painted door featuring an impressive Sikh guard leads to the parents’ bedroom. A blue and green painting of fresh flowers is arresting and could well be the focal point of the room. Straight line furniture, a chandelier, wooden flooring and a wall full of photo frames narrate the family’s story.
One can’t miss Arjun’s favourite part of the house — the garden. “Firstly, it’s spacious and an extended version of the living room. Secondly, the green Chinese hut with cane chairs is the perfect ambience to have a glass of wine with friends in the evening,” smiles Arjun. A water body surrounded with pebbles, red bricks and statues of fisherman, a pair of cranes, panda and animal planters bring in a sprinkle of magic.
We loved the unexpected mix and the perfect amalgamation of tradition and modern thought processes. Here antiques sit next to contemporary classics and few rustic pieces are teamed with striking arts that add a splash of modernity.
