What inspired you to take up architecture?
Besides growing up in a family of architects, I was heavily inspired by music since I was in school. Interestingly, the band Pink Floyd’s lead drummer, the legendary Nick Mason is possibly the most famous musician, who is also an architect. Having always being inclined to music and playing the guitar in my free time, I believe music has lent that magic to what I do and what I strive to do on a daily basis. So, basically my love for music and art inspires me.
Your design philosophy…
I focus on design as functional art. As architects, we embrace a wide scope of appropriate technologies for designs that respond to a client’s needs. The climate and regional character are also equally important. Everything has to fall into place naturally like it was meant to be. As years passed and my work and understanding of it evolved, my projects have challenged to put my words and thoughts into design. My style has
evolved over the years, but the core elements remain the same. I believe, like the early modernists, the shapes, moulded by light, should have a deceptive simplicity about them.
Your take on India inspired designs…
I am inspired by cross-culture and the multi-cultural outfit that we belong. It allows us to practise different styles of design and ethics.
Tips to accessorise a home with an Indian decor scheme…
Any and every organic element can spell Indianness in a decor. When we talk Indian, we think of traditional and it could be anything, from an earthen pot to clay or cement flooring.
