If you have a transferable job, then no wonder you must be used to shifting homes lock, stock and barrel. But, for those who shift homes once in 5 years or say 10 years, it is really too taxing. It is indeed a process, which involves ‘stress’, ‘mental agony’ and ‘anguish’ moments. It’s good to be always prepared for the best and the worst. Adhere to these simple guidelines and chances are you’ll end up with a smooth shifting transition.
The transporters: If you have booked a mover, then call them up at least 72 hours prior to your shifting. This will ensure that they send the vehicle and staff at the pre-decided time. Also, ensure that you end up calling them early morning the day you’re moving, this ensures that they remember. When the D day arrives, disconnect the telephone line, completely shut off the main power line, and get the water connection off the track temporarily.
Kid mania: Talk to your kids. Let them know before hand that we are shifting home. Shifting to a better place, a better location and better environment. Take them for a dekho of the new house for that comfort level to set in. Make double sure that they understand why we are moving location.

A Clean look: It is not mandatory; however, it would be nice if you can get the house cleaned after pack all your stuff. It is advisable to hire a labourer to get the work done. Also, do not forget to alert the post office about your address change.
Be Prepared: Stock plenty of cartons in advance. These days professional movers come along with their own bundle of cartons of different shapes and sizes. So, packing your stuff won’t be a problem. Remember – if you have breakable and fragile expensive items; then it is better that you carry it personally in a different personal vehicle.
