Rahul Mishra Opens His Flagship Store in Mumbai; A Living Museum of Couture

Mumbai just gained a new cultural landmark. Rahul Mishra’s flagship store at Horniman Circle isn’t only about couture — it’s about experiencing craft, design, and storytelling in ways you’ve never imagined.

Step inside Maison Rahul Mishra, and you quickly realise this isn’t your typical luxury boutique. Spanning 7,500 sq ft and designed in close collaboration with architect Rooshad Shroff, the space is conceived as a living museum. It’s as though Mishra has invited us into his universe, letting us explore the inspirations, craft, and narratives that usually stay hidden behind atelier doors.

In the world of design, Rooshad Shroff is known for blurring boundaries between art, architecture, and craft.
A gilded dream – the mirrored chamber celebrates couture as sculpture.

The journey begins with silence. The first chamber is devoid of garments, instead offering sketches, muslin swatches, and botanical embroideries — a quiet prologue into Mishra’s world. From there, the store unfolds like chapters in a book. Each room is a scene: mannequins elevated into sculptures, embroidered walls turned into canvases, and immersive spaces inspired by flowers, birds, and insects — recurring themes in Mishra’s couture.

Every detail is deliberate. Wood marquetry, handwoven carpets, etched marble lights, bespoke lamps, the architecture itself carries the language of embroidery. Shroff describes the approach best: “The store couldn’t simply be a backdrop for garments, it needed to become a physical extension of Rahul’s universe.”

The final chamber offers a moment of awe. A constellation of handcrafted metal birds hovers mid-flight above, while marquetry bird motifs continue their story across the walls. It’s dramatic, yes, but also deeply personal — echoing the balance Mishra strikes in his fashion.

As the only Indian designer showing on the official Paris Haute Couture Week calendar, Rahul Mishra has consistently championed craft as the heart of luxury.

For visitors, it’s not just about browsing clothes. It’s about discovering the process — seeing drawings, dried flowers, embroidery swatches, even archival motifs displayed as objects of art. Mishra himself calls it “a slow, almost meditative experience… more like composing a living museum than building a store.”

So, if you find yourself in Kala Ghoda, don’t think of it as stepping into a boutique. Think of it as stepping into Rahul Mishra’s imagination;  a space where couture and craft breathe in marble, wood, fabric, and silence.
