Blown Away: Mumbai’s Iconic Eros Building Welcomes India’s First Glass Art Gallery

Mumbai’s iconic Eros Building, a landmark of the city’s Art Deco heritage, is now home to India’s first blown glass art and lighting gallery by designer Arjun Rathi. This new space brings together traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design, introducing a fresh perspective on glass as an artistic and functional medium.

The gallery features a striking collection of sculptural glass art and lighting installations, each piece showcasing the intricate skill of artisans who blend age-old glassblowing techniques with modern aesthetics. From bold statement lighting to delicate glass sculptures, the collection pushes the boundaries of material and form, highlighting the versatility of glass in design.

A key part of the gallery’s vision is its connection to Rural Modern Glass Studio, India’s first dedicated art-glass studio. This initiative fosters collaborations between Indian artisans and international glass artists, resulting in innovative creations that merge global influences with local craftsmanship. Sculptural pieces like the Queen Cobra and Dragon Dagger reflect this cross-cultural exchange, celebrating glass as both a medium of storytelling and design innovation.

Located within the historic Eros Building, the gallery stands at the intersection of heritage and modernity. It not only adds a contemporary creative space to Mumbai’s design landscape but also reimagines how traditional crafts can thrive in a rapidly evolving world.
