Beyond Interiors: Apartment 1500 Blurs the Lines Between Space and Structure

Located on the edge of Shivaji Park, with open views of the Arabian Sea, Apartment 1500 is a 3-bedroom home designed to be quiet, functional, and easy to live in. The clients wanted a space that didn’t feel overly designed—something soft, minimal, and calm, where nothing felt forced or ornamental.

The layout of the apartment was reworked entirely. Walls were moved, corners rounded, and circulation rethought to create smoother transitions across spaces. Instead of treating the interiors as surface decoration, the design team approached the apartment as a spatial project—where every element, from storage to furniture, was built into the structure of the home.

A key idea throughout was flow. There are no hard partitions between the living, dining, and movement areas. Spaces shift gradually, using material changes and soft geometry. Curved walls, arched thresholds, and built-in benches help guide the movement naturally through the apartment.

The palette is restricted—textured walls in lime plaster, wood for warmth, local grey stone, and muted tones. The lighting is ambient and integrated, with minimal use of fixtures. Custom furniture pieces are designed to suit the geometry of each space, ensuring continuity in both form and material.

Plants are placed strategically, not decoratively, to balance the neutral materiality with a sense of life. Everything in the home—from the proportions of the openings to the shape of the light coves—has been designed with intent, keeping longevity, ease of use, and maintenance in mind.

Apartment 1500 reflects Nayan Mote Studio’s approach to design, where architecture and interiors are treated as one. The focus is on planning, proportion, and detail, resulting in a home that is rooted in comfort and clarity, without unnecessary noise.
