The Classroom, a school-themed restaurant with its thoughtful interiors and yummilicious food will make you revist your school days.
Impressions: Delilah Rodrigues
One of my work trips to Delhi led to the discovery of The Classroom in Sector 29 of Gurugram, Haryana. Once inside this newely opened restaurant, all those memories of loud banter, timely lectures, chalk and board and the most-awaited lunch breaks were back. It was almost like I stepped into a time machine and I was taken back to those fun school days. What left me nostalgic was the detail in terms of the interiors.
A chance meeting with Shikhir Dhingra, Coowner of The Classroom answered many of my questions, right from who designed this 12,000 sqft space, to how did they come up with such a fantastic idea. He informs, “The Classroom has been designed by Depth, an architectural firm that has a young team brimming with fresh ideas.” On asking him the reason behind freezing on this theme, he candidly says, “All we wanted to do was create a space where people could remember the memorable time spent in school classrooms. We paid attention to the tiniest detail to recreate the school feel, and literary transport patrons back in time.”
Be it the staircase railing, the use of school frames and slates, the bars conceptualised on school canteens and the chemistry lab, the bench like seating or even the cutesy graphics on the walls; all elements blend well, giving a distinct character.
