Artist Aparajita believes that art in any form is mystic. She says, “I try to create art that is honest and feels true to me at that moment and that, by extension I believe, strikes a chord. I am primarily inspired by light
falling on a subject and creating a play of colour, shapes and shadow.”
People, the universality of unspoken stories and the beauty and challenge of rendering the human face is what most interests her. She is also inspired by the ocean, bright colours, simple poetry and elements of minimalist design. Apart from charcoal, another favourite medium of this artist is oils. Aparajita was raised in Chennai in a very creative environment, and by parents who taught her to see beauty and joy in the simplest of things. She went on to pursue her Masters in Biotech and worked in the area of neural stem cells in San Diego.
It is there that she began dabbling in art along her journey. A few years ago, aft er her son was born; Aparajita took a break from work and with the support and encouragement of her husband, decided to get into art more seriously. In the process, she has had the opportunity to learn from some wonderful teachers along the way.
