Mana Shetty’s R House is a trendsetting hotspot for the design-savvy, largely thanks to the new and exciting collections, that will always be an extension of the owner’s personal style and flamboyance. We catch up with her over her informal design sensibilities.
R House by Mana Shetty is all set to celebrate its third year in the decor business in just a few months. Its owner, who admits that her work is akin to that of a curator rather than an interior
decorator or stylist, remains just as involved in sourcing art and decor pieces for the large, two storey showroom in Worli to match her inimitable style.
And just like the store launch in 2013 which was put together in a very speedy four months period (Mana and her team recollect her near nervous breakdown the she had the night before the store opening), the space has grown rapidly in the past year with an ever-growing variety of products that make this space a truly lavish
one that is filled with good energy. Inspired by her travels abroad and regular visits to decor and design exhibitions, recent additions at the store bear a strong affinity to Moroccan-style home decor and even a curated line of affordable art.
Yet, what makes one a recurrent visitor to this space, is Mana’s ability to keep the highly stylised looks classy as ever with “art, fashion, culture and luxury wrapped together in the warm
glow of ethnicity.”
Mana hails from a family of renowned and illustrious architects and tells that the warm, understated style seen here is quite similar to her personal home style. After all, the store grew as a result of styling her own home and the mock villa for the Discovery
project in Khandala near Mumbai, encouraged by her husband, Bollywood star and entrepreneur Suniel Shetty.
She is now engaged in doing up the other villas in this private gated community of 21 villas. She shares that her passion for design and keen sense of aesthetics even allows her to enjoy putting together dinner parties at their Khandala home, though these have become smaller with only 40 to 50 guests at a time.
What makes Mana’s exploration of taste in decor and interiors so appealing and interesting, also quite evident throughout the course
of our discussion on decor and more, was the sense of easy-going informality that is innately translated into whichever project she has taken on. This personal, lifelong mantra of keeping the decor scheme, whether for selecting pieces at the store or catering to a large event, to one’s personality rather than blindly following trends
is something she encourages among her clientele too.
With the art of styling being about making spaces as glamorous, easy to use and inviting while flowing well with the architecture of the space, Mana and her team of dedicated designers continue to excel at bringing a complete styling and curating of interiors and outdoors and landscaping for contemporary, world-class spaces.
