Designed to serve her own design vision of excellence, Dimpy Jhawar of SD Interiors has bathed her Kolkata home in calming hues that provide comfort and peace.
They say that interior design is the best possible way to enhance the available space. That is what Dimpy Jhawar from SD interiors set out to do. The 900 sqft 2 BHK apartment designed by Jhawar has all the aesthetic accents found in a busy city apartment. She has designed this home located in Kolkata for herself and her husband Saurabh Jhawar.
Owning a house and designing it, especially your own space can be challenging. Adding bits and pieces from their vision board, Dimpy converted the place into a peaceful abode for the couple. The design concept for the 2BHK is minimal, classy with sweet colourful hues. The colour palette of each room complements each other wonderfully. White is the main colour for the home and the combinations of pastel green and shades of grey blend harmoniously. The house is engulfed with the natural sunlight as all of the windows are facing west.
The main entrance door has an eye-catching metal CNC design, and the second door is a solid one. Making your way into the sitting area of the Jhawar residence, the mustard yellow couch is sure to grab your attention. The Indian patterned wallpaper behind the couch and the hanging light above gives the space a cosy look. What makes this space lively is Dimpy’s attention to detail, from the cute vinyl stickers above the switchboards to the tasteful burst of colours in the floor rug. The subtle white walls balance out the entire look and are adorned with elegant pieces like the wall clock and the classic mirror.
The Jhawars love hosting their friends which is why Dimpy chose to avoid placing a dining table. This space is to be used as a make-shift bedroom with a foldable bed in place when they have guests staying over. The space between the foldable bed and the entertainment unit is embellished with a Sai Baba Tanjore Painting. The tall planter stands right below it adds a pop of freshness to the entire home. The kitchen is furnished with a smart space-saving technique and designs that maximize storage. The off white & dark grey colour palette sets the warm undertone for the ambience of the Kitchen.
The quaint yet contemporary bedrooms show off Dimpy’s artistic choices wonderfully. The Master bedroom is tastefully designed in subtle hues, the master Bed has a full-height headboard made with pastel green leatherette and a matching light on one of the bedside. Saurabh desired for there to be a corner that he can call his own, an accent chair in the master bedroom is placed in a nook strategically for whenever he wants to unwind with a book. All the furniture in the living area, as well as the master bedroom, is finished with a PU paint coating. The Kitchen and the Guest room furniture have a laminate finish.
The guest room is a sight to behold, while the large window gives the room a wider effect, Dimpy’s expertise and clever prop placements shape up the room. The pop of colour in the window shades, mirror panelling above the bed and the smart use of space elevate the cosy and beauty of the guest room. The beautiful window sitting and study unit is placed smartly so that the room does not look cluttered.
The attraction of the worship nook is the Salasar Balaji Tanjore painting and the peacock feather design on both sides and top of the mandir. The customize blinds of the mandir is made with maroon velvet fabric with cow shape embroidery on it, this brings an aesthetically pleasing and traditional look separating the mandir from the entire home. The effort Dimpy puts in with the touch of fixtures, accessories, lighting and more can convert a house into a home. Something she has done successfully in Saurabh and her apartment (and hundreds of her clients).
