A house seeped in the visual beauty of minimalism, combined with tasteful contemporary elements
The 3,500 sqft, 4BHK Chaudhary house located at Lodha Fiorenza, Goregaon, Mumbai is simply mesmerising and beautiful. For interior designer Vasudha Jalan of VCJ Designs, the design language was seeded in equal parts minimalism and contemporary modern.
She strove to achieve a space, which is functional, modern and which would serve as a sanctuary to a family in the midst of the concrete city jungle. Vasudha says that the idea was to create an inviting environment, which suited the urbane lifestyle of the client, something that was relaxed, yet had a touch of elegance to it.
The entrance foyer opens into a wide solid teal blue coloured wall of the living and dining area. It sets the mood for the entire space, adding a touch of drama, which is complimented by large windows on both sides. Adding to the contrasts across the interiors, different styles of furniture are used together here.
A clean tan leather couch offsets the bright wall along with mid-century style arm chairs and stools along side contemporary furnishings in muted shades of powder blue and grey. Beautiful photographs in black and white frame the wall behind the dining table creating a look that is clean, minimal and personal. The design of the kitchen has been streamlined with minimalist styling, clean lines and finished in all white.
The layout here has been kept very open and functional. The master bedroom has a beautiful balcony overlooking lush greenery and is blessed with a lot of natural light. Therefore a design for the masterbed comprises of a minimal blue velvet art deco headboard along with a contemporary daybed and sumptuous accessories were chosen, that enhance the room further.
The overall material palette of the house has been kept very simple. Matt black finish panelling has been used judiciously in the common areas, and beautifully coupled with accent pieces of furniture. For the upholstery and furnishings Vasudha played around with a lot of different textures, natural linen fabrics and muted colours. The whole house truly is a reflection of the care with which each detail and area was deligiently and expertly handled by the designer.
