Babita Malkani is well-known Bollywood circles as the lady who dresses up leading actresses of the day. As a busy designer, she makes a point to keep her house up to date. Babita’s house is clutter-free to the core, and the lines are clean, straight with extensive detailing that actually make the surface look simpler. Babita says ” When my house was undergoing a transformation, I had made it a point to keep the design serene and fuss-free. Even today I prefer setting up my decor as per my mood; to de-stress with some scented candles and oils, some old music to rejuvenate or set up of a lounge atmosphere with a glass of wine”.
THE LIVING SPACE
Luxury at home is defined differently by different people believes Babita. For her it means minimalistic creative, contemporary, and artistic decor. She likes smooth surface, basically a space where there is a feeling of warmth and zen like ambiance.Since she lives on the ground floor ( 2 storey bungalow) the seamless glass doors open to integrate with her wooden deck patio.
A LITTLE MORE
On entering the Malkani house , you will get the feeling of big vast space. However, what strikes a chord are the perfect amalgamation between the living room, the dining space and the open deck. The dining area is the perfect gateway for the family from the hustle and bustle of the city. The essence and feel of the entire house is carried forward to the garden as well, namely a dim lights and the lounge setting. It’s my most favorite spot says Babita, in the entire house, as it gives me the freedom to sit, relax and think.
The folding glass panels multiplies the sense of space and adds to the element of luxury on the deck. The bar is tucked away in one lazy corner that directly integrates with the open deck. The exotic cane settled in the garden is a perfect place for Malkani’s evening family gup-shups.
BITS AND SPACES
Most of the artifacts and curios around the house have been collected by Babita from all over the world during her travels. Babita says “for me my house always feels unfinished due to my creative background and zest for travel, which makes me garner art and culture from around the globe. I simply love and adore my house”.
