Here are some DIY tips from Videocon, the will give you the technical know-how, while helping you save some moolah on servicing.
CHECK THE CONDENSER
The condensing unit, usually located outside your room rejects heat to the surrounding by blowing the fan over the condensing coils. To clean this on your own, use a brush to remove the dirt from the coils and ensure that air can blow unobstructed from the condenser
CLEAN FILTERS
Most indoor evaporator units are fitted with removable filters that traps dust to prevent dirt from clogging the coils of the evaporator. To clean them all you need to do is remove the filters and wash them with soap to get rid of the dust (Do it at least once in a month). You can also remove dirt by changing the electrostatic filters that act as a secondary filter system for the evaporator. Then, wash (or replace) the air filters and reinstall the unit
EVAPORATOR
Keeping the evaporator clean will ensure that the cooling capacity of the air conditioner is not lost due to the dirt that obstructs the flow of air to the room. It’s advisable to use a vacuum cleaner or a wet cloth to clean the coils of the indoor evaporator, if dirty.
CHECK DUCTWORK
If you are using a central air conditioning system, check the ductwork to ensure that the ducts are air tight, by sealing loose or cracked joints with the use of a sealant. To ensure the efficiency of the air conditioner, clean and replace the filter if necessary. Also, ensure that the vents are not blocked by furniture.
REMOTE CONTROL
If you have a remote control, make sure that it is working by checking the display and using it to control the unit. It is advisable to remove the remote batteries if not in use for a long period. Learn the functions of electronic control to ensure that you are able to operate the air conditioner effectively. Use of the timer and other energy saving modes are recommended to save energy and reduce electricity bills.
